PostSubject: Rules and Guidelines   Tue Jun 24, 2008 2:34 pm

RP is strongly encouraged but not enforced.

Party chat is generally considered OOC.

Meta-Gaming is strongly discouraged but not strictly enforced.

Do not exploit anything. Exploiting or cheating in any capacity is grounds for a complete account wipe and ban.

Language should be kept appropriate for public places when using talk and other characters are around. In character adult interactions are permitted as long as you take steps to ensure it is in a private area where it is reasonable to assume public traffic is not normal.

Party chat is generally considered OOC. If you are offended by party chat, drop the party or turn it off. Greet players who join your party with respect, please. It is not acceptable to be offensive "just because you can".

Do not be crass, rude or use foul language in your party chat unless you know everyone in that party will not be offended. I place the burden of responsibility on the player who is crass to be certain no one is offended. It is a simple question to ask, and it is easy enough to reform your party so you can use foul language and make sexist or racist jokes with those who know what to expect and do not mind it.

If anyone wants to have adult, private conversations in tells, feel free. That is entirely your prerogative so long as you are all adults and consent to it.

Respect other player's RP. If you do not like or agree with the RP of another player or group of players, then don't get involved.

Devastating Criticals and Pick Pocketing have been disabled. Do not take the Devastating Criticals Feat or the Pick Pocketing Skill.

These rules are not considered the catch all and end all to the server rules. More content will be added as the need arises.

PostSubject: Power-Leveling and Power-Gaming   Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:53 pm

This is for clarification about the definition and regulation of power-leveling and power-gaming in Forlorn.

Power-leveling: Having a high level character take a low level character to an area the low level character would not be able to survive in without close supervision by the high level character or some means of hiding from the opponent in that area, so the high level character can do all or most of the killing and the low level character can gain XP at a much faster rate than by normal means; Soaking of XP from a high level character by a low level character.
I am changing the XP system to stop the extreme cases of this occurring. Characters that are not within ten levels of each other will not gain XP from each others kills.

Power-Gaming: Quickly leveling a character through normal means by using knowledge of gear and optimum areas to fight and earn XP; Using a high level character to buff a new or low level character so they can fight in an area not normally available to them without the buffs.
There is no rule against power-gaming. Feel free to level your characters as fast or slow as you like in this manner.

Because of the script changes in XP distribution, there will be no rule against any combination of character levels being in the same area at the same time for RP purposes. If I see anything that looks like an exploit or that could be determined to be power-leveling, I may make changes to the scripts and or rules again in the future.

Please do not cheapen the work that has gone into building, creating and running this module.

At first glance this seems contradictory, but do you mean in the second quote that a character will not get diminished returns in xp from multiclassing?

It means that player characters can RP together, even in hostile environments, no matter what the level difference may be between them all. If there is any indication of power-leveling however, then action will be taken against all those involved.

Have you addressed PvP?? What is consenting and what isn't? When does it stop, meaning if you consent to PvP and are killed and are raised but the putz keeps attacking to kill you again with no OCC or RP? Any minimum level difference? Basically outline PvP.

PvP is permissible under our guidelines in two basic formats. By aggressive or disruptive behavior, opening the offender up to being attacked by all who have been affected by said actions. And by mutual consent.

PvP ends in the case of disruptive or aggressive behavior when the offenders character is killed or yields and that player ceases the activity that lead to the PvP scenario. One may have to kill the offender multiple times to get the point across or move their own activity to another place until a DM can address the situation and take appropriate action. PvP ends in the case of mutual consent when "one" party opts out of the fighting.

RP during any PvP incident outside the arena is strongly encouraged even if in case one above, the offender remains OOC. Also, relogging with a higher level, more powerful or more appropriate character to deal with someone in case one above is also permissible and encouraged to assure you are victorious. Even calling for aid from fellow players is encouraged to show a united front against those who would come to forlorn and be disruptive jerks.
